Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppies for Sale in Maryland
The Chesapeake Bay retriever is a large hunting dog developed and bred during the 18th century to help retrieve waterfowl. The breed began when two dogs, described as Newfoundland dogs, were rescued from a sinking ship in Maryland in 1807. The dogs were bred with other retriever breeds, and their offspring were dubbed Chesapeake Bay retrievers. They are the official dog of the state of Maryland and the mascot of the University of Maryland.
Bright dogs with a happy disposition, Chesapeake Bay retrievers require a great deal of socialization and exercise at an early age. The Chesapeake Bay retriever stands about 24 to 26 inches and weighs an average of 65 to 100 pounds when fully grown. Their coat comes in nearly any shade of brown with limited white spots. Their eyes have a distinctive amber hue, and the coat tends to be wavy.
Extremely vocal in nature, these dogs make excellent watchdogs, and because they can be rambunctious, they should receive obedience training at a young age. If you like working dogs and would love a sporting companion, check out the available puppies on Puppies Online.
